OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION ONGOING - JEFFERSON COUNTY

On behalf of the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office:

On November 2nd, 2017 at 11:15pm, the Central Oregon Major Incident Team was activated to investigate an officer-involved shooting that took place in Madras at approximately 11:00 P.M. The incident occurred after a vehicular pursuit with a reported stolen vehicle that began in Deschutes County and ended in Madras on Highway 97 near L Street.

After law enforcement made contact with the occupant(s) of the vehicle, shots were fired and one occupant was wounded. That occupant was taken to Saint Charles Bend and is receiving medical care.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

Based on the nature of this investigation, northbound Highway 97 is currently closed with an established detour in place. The Central Oregon Major Incident Team has been and will continue to work throughout the morning to obtain information regarding this investigation.

This is a preliminary release and all future information will come from the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.
