November 10, 2017 -- This evening, a man shot another man during a dispute. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Friday, November 10, 2017, at 4:40 p.m., Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies serving the City of Cornelius responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of south Jasper Street in Cornelius. As Sheriff's deputies were responding, additional information was reported that someone outside was shot and bleeding.

Upon arrival, Sheriff's deputies secured everyone involved and recovered a handgun. It was learned that Francisco Chavez-Reyes, 29, and Narciso Huerta Vasquez, 30, were arguing and during the argument, Mr. Vasquez was shot in the hand. Mr. Vasquez arrived at the house to drop off his child.

Mr. Vasquez sustained a significant injury to his left hand. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he is being treated.

Investigators from the Interagency Gang Enforcement Team (IGET) are assisting Sheriff's deputies with this investigation.

Francisco Chavez-Reyes (his booking photo will be available early tomorrow) was arrested and will be lodged in the Washington County jail. He will be charged with Second Degree Assault and held on $250,000 bail. Additional charges will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
